Why do we always turn to the right side before sitting up after savasana?
So I spent some time looking for the answer to this and I've come up with a few satisfying conclusions - but really, it depends. If you are pregnant, you'll want to roll to the left as you will most likely have spent your time in savasana on your left side. As for rolling to your right - an anatomical answer would be that rolling to the right places your heart on top, allowing greater and easier blood flow. An energetic answer (which I'm directly taking from Dorothy's blog http://blog.breathefirstyoga.com/) "is that the left side of the body is passive, cooling, and comforting. The right side is warming and energizing. When lying down, the uppermost side is considered the dominant energetic side. So when you roll to the right, with the left side being uppermost, it helps you to stay in that passive relaxed mode as long as possible".
There are lots of other answers out there, but typically most yoga instructors will indicate to roll to the right.
